DUTIES :

This position is responsible for performing activities related to high-pressure, high-temperature mineral physics research and undergraduate research mentoring in the ABET-accredited Marine and Environmental Science major program at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. In support of these efforts, this position is responsible for performing high-pressure diamond-anvil cell (DAC) experiments, developing a graphical user interface (GUI) to correct temperatures in laser-heated DAC experiments, maintaining a database of optical data, contributing to manuscripts for publication, and assisting with undergraduate research projects.

This position requires previous experience in high-pressure, high-temperature research. This position must be able to meet research deadlines and address issues in a timely manner while demonstrating excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Works independently, leads projects and collaborates with team members. Uses superior communication skills, both verbal and written.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED :

Minimum :

1. Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in Physics, Earth and Planetary Science, Geoscience, Chemistry, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.

2. Demonstrated experience in a programming language.

3. Experience with high-pressure static or dynamic experiments

Preferred (in addition to the minimum):

1. Extensive experience performing laser-heated diamond-anvil cell experiments

2. Ability to code in Python and MATLAB programming language.

3. Evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

4. Demonstrated experience using beamlines or other equipment at National User Facilities
