Role Summary:
Are you passionate about transforming healthcare through clear and strategic communication? As Senior Manager, Product Operations at athenahealth, you will lead the communication of our product roadmap, ensuring stakeholders and customers understand the value of our investments. Reporting to the Director of Product Operations, you will drive alignment across teams, lead a high-performing group, and shape the narrative around how our innovations improve healthcare outcomes. This role requires up to 10% travel annually.

Featured by Gartner and in Melissa Perris groundbreaking book Product Operations: How Successful Companies Build Better Product at Scale, this team plays a critical role in governing over 260 scrum teams delivering features to more than 10,000 customersadvancing athenahealths vision of a thriving healthcare ecosystem. We lead cross-functional ceremonies, craft clear and compelling narratives, and ensure internal and external stakeholders are aligned on the value and direction of our product investments. Our mission is to amplify the impact of our R&D efforts by making the roadmap visible, understandable, and inspiring. Key Responsibilities

  • Roadmap Communication & Storytelling: Lead the creation and delivery of clear, compelling narratives that explain the purpose and value of our product investments from roadmap through release.
  • Translate complex product strategies into accessible stories for internal teams and external audiences.
  • Partner with Product, Marketing, and Customer Success teams to align messaging and maintain consistent communication across channels.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Lead internal enablement efforts to equip teams with the knowledge and tools needed to communicate priorities.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure roadmap messaging supports strategic goals and resonates with key stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to internal teams, helping them understand and communicate the value of our product direction.
  • Team Leadership: Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team focused on roadmap communications and stakeholder engagement.
  • Foster a culture of clarity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Monitor industry trends and customer needs to inform and evolve roadmap narratives.
  • Contribute to strategic planning sessions and special projects as needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Business, Communications, Healthcare, Technology, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • 510 years of experience in product operations, strategic communications, or program management within healthcare or technology.
  • Proven experience managing and developing teams.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional storytelling and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences including senior leaders and customers.
  • Strong strategic thinking and ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Demonstrated success leading through influence in a matrixed environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; familiarity with tools such as Confluence, Jira, or Aha! is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of healthcare industry dynamics and customer needs.
