The Science Coordinator supports NASA's human space exploration missions by managing logistics, scheduling, and coordination of meetings and training events both virtually and in person. This role facilitates collaboration across NASA centers and international partners, ensuring smooth communication and integration of scientific and technical documents into mission operations. The JETS II contract seeks to fill a Science Coordinator position in the NASA Astromaterials Research and Exploration Science (ARES) Division, as part of the Science and Exploration Department (SED). This position will be hybrid at Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX and requires occasional in person support onsite at JSC and travel for international meetings, workshops, and conferences.
The Science Coordinator will:
  • Provide lunar mission science, logistics, and business services to a range of NASA's human exploration organizations
  • Provide administration services for workshops and conferences at Johnson Space Center, other NASA centers and at meetings with international space agency partners Administrative services may include leading meetings, coordinating agendas, note taking, action tracking, and similar tasks
  • Provide in person and virtual coordination services for various NASA customers. In person support at Johnson Space Center and international travel for meetings, workshops and conferences will be required
  • Prepare schedules, logistics, and track actions for reporting, meetings, face to face, milestones and deliverables
  • Be a liaison for scheduling and coordination of crew training between crew office, instructors, and sub teams for virtual, in person, and field training events
  • Maintain SharePoint action and event tracker and related calendars for Artemis program activities
  • Provide review, preparation, and development of scientific, engineering, and technical documents
  • Integrate science community documents into flight systems and human and robotic planetary exploration requirements
  • Perform other tasks assigned
Requisition Qualifications:

  • A BS degree is typically required
  • Experience coordinating meetings, schedules, logistics and services across multiple organizations or groups
  • Ability to develop innovative work ideas and work without specific tasking
  • Proficient computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Office suite, file/image editing with Adobe products)
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work on a team and lead tasks when necessary
  • Highly organized with attention to detail
Requisition Preferences:
  • BS degree from an accredited college or university in an associated technical discipline
  • Bachelor's in business, marketing, communications, or a related field
  • Knowledge of planetary science concepts and NASA's human spaceflight missions
  • Mission science integration and operations
  • Scientific or technical writing, publication submissions, and proposal development
  • Proficiency with web-based collaborative platforms (e.g. wiki, SharePoint, Microsoft Teams)
  • Prior NASA experience

Essential Functions
Work Environment
Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
Physical Requirements
Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).
Equipment and Machines
Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).
Attendance
Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
