The Protocol Security team plays a crucial role in ensuring the security of all onchain development within Coinbase. We collaborate closely with product teams to empower our users to engage confidently in the onchain world.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative security strategies and conduct thorough assessments and threat modeling of various blockchain protocols.
  • Proactively identify top security risks and devise comprehensive strategies to mitigate them.
  • Provide expert technical guidance in the development of new frameworks, analysis tools, and security products.
  • Establish and promote best practices while working alongside product and engineering teams to ensure their adoption.
  • Mentor and coach members of the Protocol Security team, fostering skill development and a forward-thinking approach to crypto.
  • Stay at the forefront of blockchain security technologies and help set industry standards.
Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of onchain ecosystems, including L1 and L2 networks, DeFi protocols, and staking.
  • Proven ability to identify vulnerabilities at machine, transaction, and business logic levels within smart contracts and protocol infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of experience in smart contract auditing, with a track record of leading audits for complex protocols.
  • A strong drive for continuous learning and adaptation in the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency landscape.
  • A passion for mentoring and growing fellow blockchain security engineers, while also embracing opportunities for learning from the team.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling clear dialogue with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven experience building collaborative relationships with security, product, and engineering teams.
  • A balanced approach to strategic planning, integrating long-term goals with short-term tactics.

Compensation Details: The target annual salary for this role ranges from $186,065 to $218,900, with potential for bonuses, equity, and a comprehensive benefits package (including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k)).
