Duties

• Extracts information from cell phones seized in criminal investigations. A majority of the duties related to this position involve performing and analyzing cell phone extractions.
• Reviews cell phone extractions for the evidentiary value of contents. Cell phone extractions contain an enormous amount of data. The incumbent reviews this data to identify relevant evidence.
• Writes reports detailing information found in extractions that can be used as evidence in criminal matters. The incumbent distills the relevant information contained within the cell phone extraction and presents it in a report.
• Maps location records obtained from cell phone providers for use as GPS evidence in criminal matters. The incumbent utilizes mapping software and cell phone records to pinpoint the physical locations of persons of interest.
• Stores individual cell phones for chain-of-custody purposes. The cell phones analyzed by the incumbent must be stored in special lockers that both keep the phones powered and prevent the information on the phones from being deleted remotely.
• Testifies in court. The incumbent is called to testify as an expert in court during criminal pretrial motions and trials. The frequency of this duty is unknown. A variety of digital evidence exists in almost all criminal cases, and therefore, the potential exists for testimony regarding the analysis of this evidence to be required in each case.
• Performs related work as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Computer/Digital Forensics, or any combination of equivalent technical training, education, and/or related experience.

• Four years of experience in one or more of the following: Digital Forensics, Information Technology, or Computer Systems Analysis. Experience must include data acquisition from cellular devices and other technology-related equipment for the purpose of presenting evidence in a court and at least one year of experience testifying in court as an expert in Digital Forensics or a related field.

• Possession of the following certifications is preferred: ZetX/LexisNexis Criminal Investigations Subject Matter Expert Certification and Magnet Certified Graykey Examiner (MCGE) Certification.
