Job Description

Biomedical Engineering Services Manager

Biomedical Engineering Services (BES) provides onsite biomedical technical support services to maintain and repair equipment for patientcare operations at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, the Behavioral Health Center, and the Paramedic Division of the San Francisco Fire Department. BES manages all inventoried biomedical equipment with an estimated asset value of $40million.

Key Services

  • Initial inspection, testing, and acceptance of new patient care biomedical equipment.
  • Physical installation of equipment.
  • Existing equipment preventive maintenance and inspection.
  • Sameday emergency and routine equipment service.
  • Investigation of medical equipment unusual occurrences, recalls, and hazard alerts.
  • Project administration for hightech equipment installations.
  • Consultation on equipmentrelated issues, including prepurchase evaluations, design, development, modifications, and evaluation of service contracts.

The Manager of Biomedical Engineering is responsible for ensuring the above services and maintaining department priorities, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and directing activities in collaboration with Facilities Management, UCSF Clinical Engineering, Nursing leadership, Infection Control, Materials Management, and Risk Management.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressively responsible experience in operations management, biomedical equipment technology, or clinical engineering.
  • Knowledge of biomedical equipment management, clinical engineering techniques, network monitoring, and security.
  • Ability to apply skills in an acutecare setting to improve clinical workflows and device integration.
  • Knowledge of relevant biomedical equipment regulations and performance standards.
  • Advanced user of internal clinical engineering technology and systems.
  • Leadership skills in employee supervision and HR administration.
  • Conflict resolution skills and ability to counsel staff.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex environment and adapt to change.
  • Strong organizational skills to improve clinical workflows and equipment management processes.
  • Collaborative approach across departments to resolve problems.
  • Analytical and problemsolving skills with sound judgment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree in a related area.
  • Broad knowledge of medicalcenter, HR, and UC policies and processes.
  • Professional Engineer license.
  • Certification in Clinical Engineering specialty.
  • Certified Biomedical Electronics Technician by International Certification Commission.

Salary Range : $118,300 $268,900 (Annual Rate).
